Meet Coach Cheryl!

1. Cheryl, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

In 2006, my family and I moved to Green Bay and fell in love with the city's can-do spirit. I attend Green Bay Community Church and have been inspired to help the community through its 'Leadership Launch' training events. I've also worked with my neighborhood association, helped with the Doctors in Recital event, and kept the Brown County Community Gardens open. I started a 501c3 to make the gardens eligible for grants and worked in IT project management at Bellin and NWTC. Recently, I joined Green Bay Community Church's Together Green Bay department to help launch the 'collaboration '-focused Love Your City breakfast series.

2. How did you hear about the Brain Center of Green Bay, and why did you want to join?

I am subscribed to the Brown County Community Connect e-newsletter, which highlights how our local community comes together to address any needs that arise. I recently realized the importance of prioritizing my brain health and decided to surround myself with individuals who share the same interests. As humans, we tend to become the average of the three people we spend the most time with, so I am actively seeking out people who prioritize and care about brain health.

3. What would you tell someone looking for advice on brain health?

My advice is to focus on the fundamentals! Be honest with yourself about how you are really functioning in the areas of sleep, exercise, social and spiritual connection, nutrition, avoiding tobacco, and stress management.

4. What might you tell someone who is experiencing some sleep concerns?

Ensure your room is cool and dark, avoid caffeine after 1 or 2 pm, and establish a regular bedtime. Check with your physician if your medications affect your sleep. To manage stress, journal before 4 pm and keep a notepad near your bed for any concerns or tasks. Remember, nighttime is not the time to resolve issues. Write it down and address it when everything is more manageable during the day.
