Brain Healthy Foods - Food is Medicine

Eating a balanced diet is essential for optimal brain health. The foods we consume not only provide us with energy but also play a crucial role in the functioning of our brain, affecting our focus, memory, and overall cognitive function.

One of the best brain-boosting foods is seafood, especially fatty fish like salmon, tuna, and sardines. These fish are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for brain health. Omega-3 fatty acids promote brain function, reduce inflammation, and improve mental clarity.

Berries are another superfood for the brain. Blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries are packed with antioxidants that protect brain cells from damage caused by free radicals, improving cognitive function and preventing age-related decline.

Leafy greens such as kale, spinach, and broccoli are also excellent brain foods. They contain vitamin K, lutein, folate, and beta-carotene, all of which promote brain health. Vitamin K is essential as research has suggested it may improve cognitive function.

Nuts and seeds such as almonds, walnuts, chia, and flaxseeds are rich in healthy fats, fiber, and vitamins and minerals that promote brain health. These nuts and seeds are rich in antioxidants and omega-3s and have been shown to improve memory and cognition.

By including these brain-healthy foods in your diet, you can provide your brain with the nutrients it needs to function optimally. So, prioritize these foods and other healthy options in your daily meals to support your brain health.

This summer a great way to start including these brain-healthy foods is by shopping at your local farmers market. Click here for the Green Bay Farmers Market Schedule.
