Brain Wellness For All

As we deal with the turmoil of the COVID-19 virus and the recommended “stay at home” (thus hopefully minimizing the spread of the virus) it gives many of us extra time to think of what is most important to us: family, friends, health, love, blessings, peace, hope, opportunities, supportive people, and organizational systems are starting points. We are most blessed!!

Those of us associated with our start-up non-profit organization the “Brain Center of Green Bay” will try to be of help in spreading hope and opportunity for all of us during these challenging times. Helping starts with each of us and with our families and “at home”. please follow the guidelines for very limited outside contacts/trips and personal/family health habits (hand-washing, contact prevention, and significant home cleaning).

Beyond that, we suggest we all now have the extra opportunity to focus on improving and maximizing our individual and collective health, including “brain wellness for all.”

What are appropriate goals for health and wellness?

Maximize our overall health and especially our brain’s health and function, if we can’t entirely succeed in maximizing our brain health then try to:

- Prevent disease/disability

- Delay the onset of any disease/ disability

- Minimize disease/disability severity

- Slow, stop, and/or reverse disease/ disability

- If possible cure the disease/ disability

- Adapt to, accept, and challenge the disease/ disability

- We can’t prevent aging but we can minimize many of the effects of getting older

- Enjoy life and improve the quality of life !!

- Help others

What “tools” do we have/need to take charge and responsibility for our health?

- Stimulate your brain (and body) by being physically active

- Follow a healthy diet with good nutrition (fuel for your brain)

- Stimulate your brain with cognitive brain activities

- Stimulate your brain and your life with spiritual, social, cultural, activities such as music, art, etc.

What do our brains need to be maximally healthy?

- Energy/fuel minimizing high-glycemic carbohydrates, sugars, and artificial sweeteners

- Eat healthy fats, proteins, a wide variety of colorful vegetables, organic, fresh and non-GMO as much as possible and tend toward a ketogenic diet

- Avoid injury -( physical injury, including repetitive- falling is never allowed)

- Avoid exposure to environmental, industrial, biological toxins

- A good supporting cast(family, friends, social, recreational, spiritual, occupational associations)

- A healthy body (heart, lungs, vascular, endocrine, digestive, immunologic systems, etc.)

- A well-tuned balance of activity and rest and minimizing stress

Sounds easy? Not necessarily but well worth pursuing. Stay tuned for more information forthcoming from the Brain Center of Green Bay.

Start today? Why not? Start with simple safe exercise - but keep exercise at an appropriate level for you - walking is the best way to start. Falling is never allowed. Seek medical clearance from your doctor(s) if you have any significant health care issues.

Stay well, be healthy, stay tuned.

If you or your family member have questions or concerns regarding brain health, please reach out via email, and we will work with you remotely during this time.
